Our Third Eye Chakra is the sixth chakra, located on the forehead, between the eyebrows. It is the center of intuition and foresight. The function of this chakra is driven by the principle of openness and imagination. The most common Sanskrit name for the Third Eye is Ajna, which means "command" and "perceiving." Through the gift of seeing we can internalize the outer world and with symbolic language we can externalize the inner world. The energy of Ajna allows us to access our inner guidance that comes from the depths of our being. It allows us to cut through illusion and to access deeper truths, to see beyond the mind and beyond the words. The "way of the Third Eye" is seeing everything as it is, from a point of "witness" or "observer" or from simply being mindful, moment by moment. The Third Eye is not only the seat of wisdom, but also a seat of conscience. This is where you not only see what is going on, but you also know what it means. This is where your sense of justice and your ethics originate. When your third eye is open, you not only see, but you also begin to understand. A balanced Ajna chakra allows us to cut through the veils of illusion and truly see all that surrounds us.

Ajna represents the superior mental consciousness, which allows the direct perception of the invisible worlds and the direct perception of the subtler aspects of the manifested universe. This Chakra controls the superior intuition, clairvoyance, the capacity to anticipate certain events, the instantaneous capacity of perceiving all the qualities of any human being and extra-sensorial perceptions. Harmonious activation grants the state of unity communion with Cosmic Laws, of non-identity with the physical body and identification with its Spiritual nature. It brings us telepathy, lucid dreaming, deep self-reflection and clairvoyance.

Imbalances in the sixth Chakra include: inability to perceive the inter-connectedness of the world and your place in it, difficulty trusting your intuition and inner voice, lack of intuition, lack of fulfilled purpose or the ability to perceive things beyond their physical manifestation, inability to visualize and focus, depression, inability to see truth, inability to see beyond illusions, closed mindedness, egotism or distorted perceptions. Imbalances could also result in nightmares, the inability to recall dreams or lucid dreams, or lacking in psychic ability. Physical manifestations could include insomnia, headaches, migraine, eye dis-ease or disorders or frontal sinus conditions.*
