Horse chestnut, scientifically known as Aesculus hippocastanum, is a large tree native to the Balkans but now widely cultivated across Europe and North America. It belongs to the Sapindaceae family and is recognized for its large, palmate leaves and distinctive white flowers. Traditionally, horse chestnut extract, particularly from its seeds, has been used in herbal remedies for its perceived benefits in promoting vascular health and supporting circulation, often found in creams and supplements. The seeds contain a compound called aescin, believed to contribute to its potential effects on swelling and discomfort in the legs. Historically, horse chestnut has been used in folk medicine, and its seeds were also employed as a natural remedy for various ailments and even as a traditional method for laundering due to their saponin content.*
